More Information

CLASSICAL BALLET
Classical ballet is the foundation for other dance genres – contemporary and jazz/ musical theatre. It develops grace, technical alignment, strength, balance and flexibility.
Students may become involved in the Byron Youth Company performances and may also choose to take part in ballet presentations or exams with the Royal Academy of Dance.

CONTEMPORARY DANCE
Contemporary dance explores different ways of moving and is the perfect compliment for classical ballet. It expands the dancers versatility and future choreographic ability. It can release muscular tension, create more fluidity in the upper body as well as strengthening the core.
Most ballet companies produce ballets from the classical traditional repetoire as well as old and new contemporary ballets so it is vital that keen ballet dancers also study contemporary dance.

JAZZ
There are many different styles of jazz ! Contemporary jazz, theatre jazz (from musicals) and also lyrical jazz (more slow and expressive) and jazz/hip hop fusions. The students will have the opportunity to try a few different styles throughout the year so that they can be updated with the latest new fusions. Jazz is also recommended for classical dancers as it helps them to develop confidence, presentation skills and versatility.

HIP HOP
Students will learn the latest hip hop trends ! Age appropriate, sometimes blended with a jazz fusion for younger students.

MUSICAL THEATRE
This course involves learning a jazz routine and also learning some basic singing/acting skills to experience the world of musical theatre. It requires great stamina to sing and dance at the same time ! We highly recommend this joyous genre.

PRESCHOOLER CLASSES
From 3 yrs – Age appropriate movement, mime, stretch and dance with the use of props.
